Rare Earth Explorations Wildlife Safaris in Africa and India

Select Safaris in Southern Africa: Zambia
Zambia

Sable Antelope If you are looking for an authentic bush experience in very remote wilderness, Zambia is the place to go. The lodges are small, quiet and the camp owners take pride in offering a "real" safari. Zambia is country that lends itself well to individual travel rather than group travel. A typical safari circuit would be to combine a mobile walking safari and game drives in South Luangwa Valley, combined with Victoria Falls, and game viewing on the water in Lower Zambezi National Park. We have presented these options to you as modules so that you easily combine them for a full-length safari in Zambia or with safaris in neighboring Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa.

Crowned Crane South Luangwa Safari ~ 8 Days
Kapani • Luwi • Nsolo • Kakuli

Renowned for its unspoiled beauty and abundant game, the South Luangwa National Park forms part of the Great Rift Valley. The park encompasses 5,611 square miles of untouched wilderness, and is bordered on one side by the meandering Luangwa River, with its many oxbow lagoons, and shady Ebony groves, and on the other side by the spectacular Mchinga escarpment. Within this varied habitat exists an enormous variety of wildlife. Over 40 species of large animals including elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, hippo, giraffe and some 400 species of birds thrive in this last haven of wild Africa. All camps are quiet, small and privately owned. Game viewing is usually twice daily in open vehicles or from a hide or on foot. Night drives with a spotlight are one of the highlights of the Luangwa Valley, giving the chance to see nocturnal animals, especially the leopard, for which it is famous. Visits to the crocodile farm, a local village, leisurely picnic drives or a nature walk can be arranged.

Robin Pope Walking Safaris ~ 6 Days
South Luangwa Valley

These walking safaris take place in one of the most inaccessible areas of the South Luangwa, the Mupamadzi River. The countryside is both spectacular and diverse, with hills, woodlands and vast grass plains. The wildlife, shy and unused to man, is abundant. Robin, or one of his senior guides, takes small groups exploring into this wilderness. From ants to elephants, a bird's nest to tracking a pride of lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush. The party walks for five days along the Mupamadzi River, covering approximately 6.2 miles a day. During the course of the safari three camps will be erected and are sited for maximum shade, views, water and game density. The camp and your belongings will be moved ahead by four wheel drive truck. The walking on the Mupamadzi River is not strenuous and you only have to be "walking fit". This safari is suited to those who have a genuine interest in all aspects of the bush and not only the "big game". Twelve five-night / six-day safaris are scheduled in the months of June through September where all activities and meals are included.
